Tourist Information for Portugal.

Portugal has a very Spanish feel about it if you are used to Spain, and the language is noticeably similar. The locals are all quite friendly and very proud of their country and its history.

The Algarve in the south of the country is the main sun holiday destination for the natives and for foreigners. The Atlantic coast to the north of Lisbon is, however, becoming quite popular with the surfing crowd. Waves up to a few metres high can occasionally be seen. Ericeira is the main destination for surfing holidays, although, the local industry does not seem to have capitalised on this trade as much as it could have.

Transport

The rail network is adequate, if a little antiquated. Do not feel that if you have asked for a no smoking seat that it will make any difference. The train staff are often the biggest culprits of breaking the no smoking rules.

The road network is improving, although, just like Spain, large tracts of rural roads are unkerbed.
