Camp Municipal De L'ile Auger
I love this site. Its in great wine country, not just Chinon, but Vouvray Saumur, Bourgeuil and St Nicholas de Bourgueil are all reasonably close.
The campsite is large and basic, showers and toilets at best OK, (still some turkish style toilets), although clean.
What really makes it special is the location. Its on the banks of the Vienne, on the opposite side to the town of Chinon, and the view of the medieval chateau from anywhere on the campsite is breathtaking. The best pitches of all close to the river seem to be for visitors requiring electricity at the higher of two ratings.
I shall be there again next month.
