Shiel Bridge, Shiel Bridge

Shiel Bridge is always plagued by midgies, but that is a price worth paying. The site is nothing special, with a basic shop and an even more basic take-away. The setting is superb, though. Loch Duich and Eilean Donan castle are just down the road. The climb over Mam Ratagan is worth the effort; the views over Loch Duich and Inverinate defy description. And if you carry on, you will reach Glenelg and Sandaig - the home of Gavin Maxwell and his (Ring of Bright Water) otters.
