Travel and Outdoor Equipment Price Comparison > Cycling > Mountain Bikes
Mountain bikes, or off-road, bikes are great for use in any off-road conditions, but will be much more difficult to ride on the road than a standard road bike.
If you will be doing significant road cycling, it mihgt be worth investing in a road bike as a secondary bike, or compromising on the two and buying a single hybrid bike instead.
A key feature of a lot of mountain bikes is suspension, either front suspension or full suspension. Whilst many people may assume that bikes with suspension are better than those without, it is more to do with the type of off-road cycling that defines whether to buy a bike with suspension or not.
Full suspension bikes are only really useful for downhill racing, where the suspension really comes into use and doesn't really give any drawbacks. Full suspension bikes can be more difficult to ride up hill than a bike with no suspension, or only front suspension.
Front suspension is a nice feature to have to improve comfort over any terrain but isn't really essential. Bikes with suspension will require more maintenance than those without, so make sure you are prepared for this if you want to keep your bike in good condition.
