Usually a butane/propane mix providing a good level of performance. The best thing about gas stoves is the convenience, just switch it on and you’re cooking. The down side is the waste (throwing away the empty canister) and the running costs.

There are several fittings for different stoves, make sure you don’t buy a stove from a manufacturer with a non-standard fitting. You’ll be tied into their canisters forever.

Gas stoves are not suitable for high altitudes or freezing conditions as this will affect the pressure inside the canister, reducing performance and is potentially very dangerous.
