Camp Municipal, Epernay

We visited in August 2002 and found that the toilets and showers were dirty. We saw very little evidence of any cleaning activity. In the ladies' section one of the toilets was not operational and in the gents there was diarrhoea all over the floor.

We complained about the state of the toilets and were told that the cleaners had been off sick! The dirty state of the toilets was exacerbated in August because of a large number of children at the summer school.

There were definately too few toilets for such a large camp site.

This is such a shame because it is a beautiful site by the river with views of vineyards in the distance.

I've stayed in Epernay campsite at two ocasions:

march/02 - the campsite was empty.
july/02 - too many people, not enough toilets, almost chaos.

The campsite staff is very pleasant and can speak many languages (including English). There are many trees (but it's hard to get a place in the shade in July). The site is close the the commercial (industrial?) part of Epernay, but it's also by the river, so it's pleasent enough.
